Brasshouse features on BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen Live

Earlier today (Saturday 2nd March 2019) Brasshouse Community Centre and FareShare West Midlands was featured on BBC One, as part of a segment with Comic Relief and Saturday Kitchen’s Glyn Purnell.

During their visit, Comic Relief and Glyn worked with FareShare West Midlands, helping to fight hunger in the community with Brasshouse Community Centre (Centre managed by North Smethwick Development Trust), who use FareShare food to create hot, nutritious meals for its year-round out of school club club as well as weekly free community meals – which around 35-40 people attend each week.

“FareShare is a lifeline for us and we couldn’t do what we do without them”, says Jenn Harrison BEM, Chief Executive Officer of North Smethwick Development Trust. “Wherever possible, we are as resourceful and inventive as we can be with FareShare food and volunteers love that they’re able to cook hot and healthy meals. As we all know, food is one of those things everyone should have access to but the reality is that that isn’t the case. Our FareShare membership means we can provide good food to people in need in the community and every penny we save thanks to receiving food from FareShare is invested in our other services, such as our holiday programme and other community based activities.”

“What an amazing charity” says Glyn, when he visits Brasshouse. “Amazing people and great service – all of which goes to show how important FareShare is.”
